At Long Life Window and Doors, we’re not just in the window and door business—we’re in the people business. Here’s an amazing story we love to share!
Meet Nick, a recent high school graduate with a wonderful personality and attitude—but didn’t yet know his path forward in his career. We were replacing the windows and doors at Nick’s family home, he was impressed by the professionalism, skill, and camaraderie he observed among our installation team. Nick felt inspired and asked Long Life’s owner, Kris Alexander, if they could grab a coffee so he could learn more about our industry.
We Visited Nick at a Jobsite to Get His Side of the Story:
At the time, Nick was working a job he didn’t enjoy, feeling stuck and unsure of his direction. He’d been considering becoming an electrician, but hadn’t fully committed. That coffee chat with Kris turned out to be a turning point. Kris shared his own journey and values, encouraging Nick to take initiative and actively shape his own future. Nick recalls that what stood out most was how comfortable and natural the conversation felt—not like a formal interview, but more like talking to a friend. Kris’s confidence in Long Life, and the respectful culture he described, made a big impression.
Originally, Nick had hoped Kris might introduce him to someone in the trades. But the more they talked, the more Nick realized he wanted to work for Long Life specifically. He asked if he could try a day on-site—and the rest is history.
The First Day Working With Long Life Windows & Doors
Nick started with a trial shift, and while he was nervous at first, Josh (our foreman) welcomed him immediately. Nick was thrown into the action and appreciated being trusted from day one. That sense of teamwork and trust has been a constant since. He quickly saw that window installation isn’t a solo job—it’s all about the crew working efficiently, cleanly, and together.
What Nick loves most? The satisfaction of seeing a job completed with care and precision. He beams with pride driving through neighborhoods and spotting homes he helped transform. To him, it’s more than just replacing windows—it’s making something look and feel new, like putting on a fresh pair of shoes.
Nick now recommends the trades to his friends and has zero regrets about his decision. He encourages anyone unsure about their path after high school to just try something. “If you don’t like it, try something else. But you’ve got to take that first step.”
His experience has completely reshaped his view of trades work. He expected it to be grueling and harsh—instead, he found warmth, mentorship, and a team that truly supports each other. “No one’s yelling, everyone’s happy. I don’t have a single complaint.”
Nick’s story is one of initiative, courage, and the power of saying yes to opportunity. We’re proud to have him on our team, and even prouder of the culture that continues to attract incredible people like him to Long Life.
