Improving Window Energy Efficiency

Windows can account for up to 25% of total home heat loss. Energy efficient windows will increase your comfort, help control condensation, save you money, improve indoor air quality, reduce the penetration of dust, insects and sound into your home, and reduce your home’s impact on the environment by making it more energy efficient.

The options for creating energy efficient windows are: repair (if a window is in good shape, maintenance can improve airtightness), retrofit (caulk and weatherstrip gaps), reglaze (installing exterior or interior storm windows ), or replace (with energy saving windows).

This fact sheet from the Canadian Office of Energy Efficiency explains how making your windows into more energy efficient windows will reduce your heating costs, and describes some of the options for improving window energy efficiency.
