Window and Door Replacement Grants and Rebate Programs 2023

window replacement rebates and grants

Learn about the Current Window and Door Replacement Federal Greener Homes Grants and the Provincial Fortis BC Rebates

There are currently both Federal Greener Homes Grants and Provincial Fortis BC Programs available when upgrading your home to help alleviate some of the window and door replacement costs. Both the grants and rebates are based on the U-Values of your new windows and doors. U-Value measures the rate of heat transfer. The lower the U-Value, the better the product’s ability to resist heat conduction. Like the R value is the thermal resistance of a wall, the U-Value is the thermal resistance of a component such as a window.

By choosing Long Life Windows & Doors for your window and door upgrades we can help guide you to the best solution for you as the grants are not a one size fits all. We take an expert approach and treat your home upgrade holistically. There have been recent updates to the programs, see below for the latest!

Need a Loan for Your New Window and Door Upgrades?

The Canada Greener Homes Loan is an interest-free loan of up to $40,000 with a repayment term of 10 years, open to homeowners who have an active application (at the pre-retrofit stage) with the Canada Greener Homes Grant.

The Canada Greener Homes Loan helps Canadians make their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. It offers interest-free financing in addition to the Canada Greener Homes Grant to help you complete some of the more major retrofits recommended by your energy advisor.

Loan details

Maximum: $40,000
Minimum: $5,000
Repayment term: 10 years, interest-free
Loan type: Unsecured personal loan on approved credit

The maximum eligible loan amount is calculated based on the retrofits selected in the application and the quotes for this work. The eligible amount is capped based on industry standards and market norms. The maximum eligible loan amount may be less than your quoted cost, in which case you will be responsible for funding any difference.

A maximum of one loan is available per eligible property and homeowner.

The loan can only help you finance eligible products and installations that are part of a retrofit that is both recommended by an energy advisor and eligible for the grant.

To begin work in your home, a portion of the loan can be delivered to you up front. Contractors often require a down payment for these types of projects. The balance of the loan will be delivered upon successful completion of the retrofits and verification through a post-retrofit evaluation.

Are the Grants and Rebates Right for You?

It can depend on your home and budget on whether the window and door replacement grants and rebates will make sense for you.

As the rebates and grants are based on the U-Value of 1.22 or less, in most cases the replacement windows and patio doors require triple glazing (3 layers of glass). As the grants are across
Canada – this type of window can be beneficial in extremely cold climates. Locally, the product
cost of the window/door to qualify is greater than the amount you will receive back per window
so it doesn’t always make sense if your main driver it to save money.

Our experts would be happy to come out to assess your individual project and determine the right solution for you!
